How to use Messages mentions and inline responses

Using Messages mentions

To use mentions on iPhone or iPad in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14:

  1. Tap on the Messages app on your Home screen.
  2. Choose the appropriate group chat.
  3. Type your message as usual.
  4. Include @person to create a mention. For example, if Jay is a member of your group, type "@jay."
  5. Tap the up arrow to send the message.

Setting up alerts for Messages mentions

  1. Tap the Settings app on your device.
  2. Choose Messages.
  3. Toggle off Notify Me under Mentions.

    To change the settings for mentions alerts, tap Settings, then choose Messages, Toggle Notify Me on/off.

Using inline replies with Messages mentions

To use inline replies in iOS 14:

  1. Tap on the Messages app on your Home screen.
  2. Choose the appropriate group chat.
  3. Push on the specific message which you'd like to reply.
  4. Choose Reply.

From then, you'll see inline replies to the specific message noted with the word Reply. Tap on this to view additional comments for the particular message.
